An injection-molded plastic kit of the best-known Japanese fighter of the Second World War in 1:24 scale. The large scale moves the model out of the category of small display-cabinet items and in among the showpieces: the shapes of the cowling, the engine and the framing of the canopy all stand out on it. The manufacturer is Trumpeter.
The Mitsubishi A6M was a carrier fighter of the Imperial Japanese Navy, known in the West as the Zero. The A6M2b Model 21 form was powered by a Nakajima Sakae radial engine and was adapted for operation from aircraft carriers, among other things by folding wingtips so that the machine would fit into a hangar. The armament combined a pair of wing cannon with machine guns above the engine. The Model 21 stood at the beginning of the Japanese campaign in the Pacific, including the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Zero owed its exceptional range and agility to a very light structure, which it paid for with the lack of armor protection and with fuel tanks without a self-sealing layer.
In a large scale everything that is neglected inside can be seen: finish and touch the cockpit and the engine up before you close the fuselage. The light Japanese naval finish stands out only on a perfectly prepared surface, so sand the surface down and degrease it. Do the wear of flaking paint sparingly and in layers; on a large area it is easily overdone. Use a gloss varnish under the decals, and a flat final overspray will then even the surface out.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
