About product

Barrel for the 7.5 cm Pak 40, middle version, 1:35 (Voyager Model)

An accurately turned metal barrel, which replaces the plastic part on a kit. A metal barrel is perfectly straight, has a drilled muzzle and no parting seam, so the most unpleasant sanding of the whole build falls away. The set does not hold a model; this is a replacement for one part.

The real subject

The 7.5 cm Pak 40 gun was from 1942 the main German anti-tank gun of medium caliber. It had a long barrel with a two-chamber muzzle brake, a split trail carriage and a low silhouette. It was produced in great numbers and its barrel also appears on self-propelled chassis. Over the course of production the execution of the barrel and the muzzle brake changed, which is why the manufacturer offers several versions; this one matches the middle period of production.

Why a turned barrel

A plastic barrel comes about from two halves, so it has a seam along its whole length, which has to be sanded down and smoothed again. On a thin tapering part the shape is easily spoiled in the process. Turned metal does away with that problem and additionally holds a circular cross section and a genuinely drilled muzzle, which is very clearly visible on an anti-tank gun.

Fitting and painting

Try the seating in the breech and the mantlet of the kit dry first; sometimes the hole has to be widened slightly with a drill. Glue the metal with cyanoacrylate applied in a minimum amount, ideally with a wire. Before painting, degrease the barrel and use a primer for metal. Choose the shade itself according to the rest of the model; apply the transition of color at the muzzle and traces of scale only at the end with a dry brush or pigment.

Who the barrel is for

  • Modelers who want a perfectly straight barrel with no seam
  • Builders of German equipment of the Second World War in 1:35 scale
  • Anyone bothered by sanding long plastic barrels down

This is a replacement part for a kit you have already bought. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

The execution of the barrel and the muzzle brake changed over the production of the gun. This barrel matches the middle period; for other periods the manufacturer offers separate parts.

The attachment tends to be universal, but try the seating in the breech and the mantlet dry. The hole can be widened carefully with a drill if need be.

With cyanoacrylate applied in a small amount. Cement for plastic does not hold on metal.

Yes. Metal is smooth and non-absorbent; without degreasing and a primer for metal the paint rubs off as soon as the model is set into a display case.
