The Republic F-105 Thunderchief was an American single-engine supersonic fighter bomber designed in the 1950s. It was among the largest and heaviest single-engine combat aircraft of its day, had an internal bomb bay and was built for a fast penetration at low altitude. The cockpit sat high above the ground, so without a ladder brought up neither the ground crew nor the pilot could reach the glazing. It is precisely such small things that turn a model on a base into a scene from an airfield.
First cut the resin parts from the casting block with a fine-toothed saw rather than with nippers, so that the thin rungs do not break. Sand the cut and wash the whole part in lukewarm soapy water, so that the mold release residue disappears. It is glued with cyanoacrylate; ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on resin. Apply a primer before painting. The structure of the ladder tended to be metal, so a lighter gray or a metallic shade with a dark wash in the joints and discreet chipping on the edges, which suggests everyday use, looks good. When sanding resin, protect your breathing and sand wet.
