An injection-molded plastic kit of the T-72 M1 main battle tank in 1:35 scale from the Japanese maker Tamiya. The model faithfully conveys the characteristic low silhouette, the compact gun and the rough surface of the cast hull and turret. Thanks to its modular design and the accurate fit of the parts it is a fairly easy build, suitable even for modelers who are only starting with armored vehicles. The package also contains photo-etched parts for the screens over the engine grilles and vinyl hoses for the lines of the auxiliary fuel tanks.
The T-72 was developed in the 1970s as a simplified, more easily produced and cheaper complement to the more expensive T-64, and it gradually became one of the most numerous tanks of its era. The M1 version belongs to the widespread renderings, with thicker frontal armor and a laser rangefinder. The main armament is a 125 mm 2A46 gun with an autoloader, which made it possible to reduce the crew and to compress the height of the vehicle. Power comes from a V-46 diesel twelve-cylinder engine. The tank was widely exported and used in a number of armies and conflicts all over the world.
With armored vehicles it pays to assemble and fine-tune the running gear (wheels, rollers, tracks) before the hull is closed and painted - once it is finished you can hardly reach it. The cast surface of the hull takes light roughening. Apply the base with an airbrush and use a thin modeling cement on the plastic. The patina is essential to a faithful look: washes pick out the rivets and pressings, pigments create dust and mud deposits on the running gear and the underside of the hull, and drybrushing brings the edges to life. It is a good idea to paint the etched screens over the grilles separately before gluing them on.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
