Ready-built car models are the usual way into collecting. A finished die-cast car sits in the palm of your hand, needs no building and looks good on a shelf straight away. 1:43 and 1:64 carry the range between them: 1:43 holds the Czech and European cars, while 1:64 brings sports and tuned machines, American classics, racing cars and single-seaters, along with figure sets for populating a scene.
At this size the collection can grow one car at a time, which is both the attraction and the trap. The guide below is about keeping it coherent.

A model around 70 mm long has three practical advantages. Dozens fit a single shelf, the collection can grow one model at a time, and the choice of subjects here is as deep as in 1:43. Die-cast construction also gives the model a pleasant weight and makes it durable. The limitation is interior and engine detail — if you want to see under the bonnet, you need a larger scale or a kit.
The best collections have a frame: one marque, one era, one racing series, or one model in every colour variation it was offered in. A frame makes sense of each purchase and the result reads clearly even to a visitor. Without one, thirty unrelated cars stand in a case a year later.
Some models come in a clear blister, some in a box. For a collector intending to display them the difference is irrelevant. If you mean to keep the collection in original condition, allow for an unopened package taking more room and for not actually seeing the car.
Sets of figures and small props at the same scale turn a row of cars on a shelf into a small scene — a workshop, a stop at a filling station, a pit lane. It is the simplest upgrade available to a 1:64 collection.
To see an engine and an interior you need a kit: those are in car and formula model kits, with the greatest choice of types in 1:24 and 1:25 cars. A small-scale collection is served by 1:43 cars, and racing subjects by formula kits. Two-wheeled company comes from ready-built motorcycles, and the whole ready-built range from collectors models.
