The Towing Cable End - Soviet Army WW2 set is a modeling accessory for 1:35 scale. It solves a single but very visible assembly: the ends of the tow cables that Soviet vehicles carried in the Second World War. The cable itself is usually twisted by the modeler from wire or braided thread and completed with exactly these accurate castings of the eyes.
A tow cable was standard equipment on Soviet vehicles and was carried fastened to the hull, to a fender or to the rear of the vehicle. The end is a massive eye swaged onto the end of the cable. In an injection mold it tends to come out as a simplified molding fused with the cable, often with an undrilled eye and a parting line across the whole part. Separate castings let you make up the cable at the right length and run it over the vehicle the way it actually lay, that is with a sag between the fastenings.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap and cut them from the casting blocks with a fine saw. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. They are bonded with super glue; ordinary cement for plastic is no help here. Soft copper wire or braided thread soaked in thin glue works well as the cable: it can be shaped and holds the sag once dry. Set the end of the cable into the eye and run a drop of glue into the joint. Paint it in a dark metal shade with a hint of rust where the cable rubbed against the armor.
