A brass strip 6 mm wide and 0.4 mm thick, supplied in a length of 305 mm.
Responsibility details are not available.
A straight strip of brass six millimeters wide and four tenths of a millimeter thick; the piece is 305 mm long. The combination is the most delicate one available: the strip can be bent between your fingers, yet it holds its shape after bending and does not spring back. That is exactly the property a plastic section does not have.
For strapping, hose clamps, hinges, crate stiffeners, hoops around barrels, ironwork on wooden structures, protective edge strips and for frames that are meant to be thin and stiff at the same time. Brass will even take being drilled or having a needle run over it to leave a rivet mark.
It is divided with tin snips or by scoring repeatedly with a knife and then breaking it over an edge. A fine file or abrasive paper takes the burr off after cutting. Bends are made with the jaws of flat tweezers; for right angles it helps to clamp the strip between two steel jaws and fold it in one go. The joints will take soft solder as well as super glue; before painting the surface has to be roughened, because paint otherwise flakes off smooth brass.
The strip belongs to a grid of three widths and three gauges. Six millimeters is the narrowest of the widths and four tenths the thinnest of the gauges, so this piece is the corner of the whole matrix and suits everywhere the metal is meant to be inconspicuous.
It pays to lay the parts out along the whole length of the piece at once and to measure them from one end, because a remainder shorter than two centimeters is hard to hold and slips while being cut. Keep the shorter offcuts for shims and spacers; brass behaves better in that role than plastic.
