A set of three plastic figures of the crew of the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter in 1:48 scale from ICM. Please note that this is not a model of the helicopter but an accessory set of figures meant to bring a finished model, a diorama or a display case to life. The figures are injection-molded plastic and are supplied unassembled and unpainted. They suit Black Hawk models in the same scale perfectly, as only with a crew does the machine gain scale, context and a story.
The Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk has been the basic American multirole helicopter since the end of the 1970s: carrying troops and supplies, evacuating the wounded and special operations. The crew consists of two pilots in the cockpit and a crew member in the cargo compartment who works the door gun, directs loading and guides the pilot on the approach. The pilots wear flight suits in flame-resistant material, protective vests and the characteristic flight helmets with a visor and a microphone, and it is exactly these elements that give the figures their unmistakable silhouette.
Clean the gate marks off the figures first and sand the parting lines back lightly, so that no distracting edges are left on the clothing. Spray the assembled figures with a primer, as without one the paint holds badly on smooth plastic. Paint the flight suits and vests in olive and gray-green tones; first darken the base with a wash into the folds, then bring out the raised areas of fabric with a dry brush or a thin coat of a lighter shade. Build the flesh tones up in layers: a base tone, a darker glaze into the eye sockets and under the chin, a fine lightening on the nose, the cheekbones and the chin. Paint the helmets matte and leave the visor until the end, as a drop of gloss varnish over a dark base gives a convincing impression of glass. Do the straps, buckles and patches with a fine brush at the end.
The set of figures is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The helicopter, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
