The premium edition of a model of the Austro-Hungarian reconnaissance biplane of the First World War in 1:32 from the Polish manufacturer Lukgraph. It is a fully 3D printed kit in resin, not injection-molded plastic. The box covers series 169 with the Mercedes D.IVa engine and the manufacturer states two color schemes for it. The wings have channels inside for stiffening rods (2 x 1.6 mm), and the struts and the landing gear are drilled through for a wire to be pulled through.
What tells the three similar boxes of the same aircraft apart. Compared with the basic edition of series 169, this edition adds two things according to the manufacturer: clear decals with a wood and fabric effect (the period look of the covering and the plywood, which is hard to reach with paint) and turnbuckles for the rigging, which raise the realism of the bracing considerably. The aircraft and the engine are the same as in the basic edition. The third box is series 129/229, a different production series with the Hiero 6 engine, not a plainer version of this one.
The Hansa-Brandenburg C.1 was a two-seat reconnaissance, observation and light bombing biplane of the Austro-Hungarian air service, that is an aircraft of the monarchy of which the Czech lands were a part as well. It came out of the design office of Ernst Heinkel, ranked among the most widespread machines of the air service of the monarchy and was built under license in several series, which differed mainly in the engine: series 169 carried the Mercedes D.IVa, other series the Hiero engine. The Czech connection is strong: after 1918 the machines were taken over by the Czechoslovak Air Force and the Prague firm Aero derived its own aircraft A.14 and A.15 from the type, with Hiero engines produced in Prague; they served with CSA as well.
Do not glue 3D printed parts with polystyrene cement, it does not hold. Use cyanoacrylate glue, and epoxy on stressed joints. Wash the parts in water with detergent before painting, cut the print supports off and sand wet; resin dust is harmful to health, do not breathe it in, use a respirator and ventilate. Without a primer paint does not hold well on a print. The most demanding part of the build is the rigging, and this is exactly where the premium edition pays off: the turnbuckles supplied give the bracing the period look that bare line cannot reach. Reckon with the rigging taking a lot of time and patience; but it is what makes the model a model. Apply the clear decals with the wood and fabric effect onto a smooth, varnished and light base, so that the texture stands out.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a 3D printed kit in resin. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
