A set of decals in 1:144 scale for a model of the single-engine Antonov An-2 biplane in the commemorative finish designated Warszawa Walczy, which means Warsaw is fighting. It is not a kit but an accessory — sheets of decals with which a finished and painted model is marked. The base model is obtained separately.
The An-2 is a single-engine biplane of Soviet design from the late 1940s, which was also built in large numbers in Poland, at the Mielec works. The machine became famous for its exceptionally low landing speed, its ability to operate from short grass strips and its toughness. It served in agriculture, in transport, with parachutists and as an airplane for airdrops, and a number of examples still fly today at air shows, where commemorative and anniversary finishes also appear. In 1:144 scale the An-2 is a small model, and it is precisely sharply printed decals that decide the final impression.
Always apply decals onto a glossy surface — flat varnish has a microscopically broken structure in which air is trapped under a decal and silvering results. The sequence: gloss varnish, decal, fixing with a softener, drying, and finally evening it out with a flat or semi-gloss varnish. Cut the decal out as close to the printing as you can, soak it for a few seconds in lukewarm water and let it stand on a paper towel until it begins to move freely. Carry it to the model together with its backing and only then slide it off. Press the remaining water out with a soft cloth from the center to the edges. On a biplane work with forethought — access to the upper surface of the lower wing is limited once the struts are glued, so apply the decals as early as you can.
The set holds decals, not a model. The kit, paints and varnishes are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
