Markings for three surviving Lancasters in their 2014 guise, two British and one Canadian, at a reduction of 1:144.
Responsibility details are not available.
Of the seven thousand Lancasters built, only a few complete airframes are left to this day, and in 2014 two of them came together over England in a joint formation. It was an event photographed by tens of thousands of people, and this sheet brings it down to display-case scale. These are not wartime machines but their present-day guise with all the markings they received during restoration.
NX611 stands in a hangar at East Kirkby and is unusual in carrying different squadron codes on each side, because it commemorates two units at once. The Canadian machine appears as KB726 with the code VR-A of No. 419 Squadron, nicknamed Moose, and is a tribute to a crew one of whose members received the highest decoration for an attempt to save a trapped gunner. The British PA474 belongs to a memorial flight and in 2014 flew with the code KC-A and the inscription Thumper.
The Canadian machine is interesting also for how its present-day guise came about: it carries the markings of an aircraft that did not return to its base and so serves as a flying monument to one whole crew. The British memorial flight, for its part, changes the finish of its bomber after a few seasons, so 2014 is with it a genuinely specific state, not a permanent guise.
This set suits anyone who wants a model in the guise in which they really saw the aircraft at an air show, not the one from 1944. The differences are noticeable: today's machines have more pronounced and cleaner markings and differently handled national insignia.
The sheet is reckoned for four-engine models of 1:144 size. It contains no plastic parts and no paints, and it assumes the ordinary painting procedure and the sealing of the surface with matte clear coat after application.
