Four sets of markings for surviving Mitchells, for which the supplier gives both the civil registration and the original military serial number. Decals for models in 1:144 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
Bombers that survived the 1940s usually did not stand still. They were sold to private owners, flew as firefighting machines, towed advertising banners, and some of them went on to filming or air displays. Every such aircraft therefore carries two identities: a military serial number from the factory and a civil registration from its later operation. This sheet shows both layers on four particular machines.
For all four schemes the supplier gives the name painted on the nose, the civil registration beginning with the letter used in North America, and in brackets the original military number as well. One pair of machines additionally has a double name, that is, a different inscription on each side of the fuselage, which is usual on aircraft from this period and looks very believable on a model.
Natural metal is typical of these machines and suits decals, because a glossy surface creates no air pockets under the film. Separate the pieces of artwork one at a time, let them loosen in lukewarm water and move them into place so that the backing underneath stays damp until they sit exactly right. Place the lettering on the nose after the large registration markings, as you will then have a better idea of the spacing.
You are buying a printed sheet with four schemes. The kit and the paints do not come with it, and the sheet itself does not determine which kit to choose, so compare the shape of the forward section with photographs of the particular machine you want to build.
