A photo-etched set of antennas and radar equipment for the B-29 model in 1:144 scale is an accessory to a kit you have already bought, not an airplane model. It addresses features that in plastic are either coarse or missing entirely.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory from the Czech maker Brengun for a model of the American B-29 heavy bomber. The box holds no model but photo-etched metal parts aimed, according to the name, at the antennas and at the AN/APQ-13 radar equipment. The set is fitted to a kit in 1:144 scale, which has to be obtained separately.
An antenna in reality is a thin rod, a wire or a flat sheet a few millimeters thick. Scaled down to 1:144 that comes to hundredths of a millimeter, far below what an injection mold can manage. Kit manufacturers deal with it either by making the antenna several times thicker than it should be or by leaving it out altogether. Etched sheet solves the problem naturally: it has a real thickness of hundredths to tenths of a millimeter and its edges stay sharp. A large four-engine bomber carried a whole range of antennas and sensors, so refining them shows clearly on a model.
Leave the thinnest parts in the fret until the moment you are going to glue them. Fit the antennas at the very end of the build, after the paint and after the decals, otherwise you will bend them at every handling. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and prime it. It is bonded with super glue, best by picking up a drop on the tip of a wire and carrying it to the spot rather than the other way round. For wire antennas stretched between the tail and the fuselage, drawn monofilament or an elastic thread that can be tensioned and will not slacken proves its worth.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
