A sizeable injection-molded plastic kit of the German light tank Panzer I, Ausf.B version, in the large 1:16 scale from Takom. Thanks to the large scale the model offers pronounced detail and a considerable size once finished. The tracks are made up of individual workable links, the wheels are workable as well and all the hatches can be built open or closed — the model is therefore ideal for a view into the interior and for open hatches.
The Pz.Kpfw.I was a German light tank of the 1930s, created above all as a training and interim type for building up the tank forces. The Ausf.B version had a lengthened hull and a more powerful engine than the original Ausf.A. It was lightly armored and lightly armed (two machine guns) and technically underpowered, yet it proved itself as a school for the crews. Ausf.B vehicles saw combat in the Spanish Civil War and served in German tank units until the beginning of the 1940s. Several hundred were built.
In the large scale it pays to be patient with the individual track links — once cleaned up they make realistic workable tracks with a nice sag. Finish the running gear and the interior first, then close the hull. Glue the plastic with thin cement. Use a primer and an airbrush; build up the German gray (or early Dunkelgelb) in layers. The large surface of the model comes out beautifully with tonal modulation; complete the weathering with a wash, drybrushing of the edges and dust pigments on the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
