A resin StuG III drive sprocket, late form B from the Alkett plant, 1:16 scale — a separate running gear accessory, not a kit of the vehicle.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin casting that replaces the plastic drive sprocket in a model. It is a single part of the running gear, but the one that makes or spoils the overall impression of the front of the vehicle in a large scale.
Late StuG IIIs were made in two plants and their sprockets were not identical. This casting corresponds to form B from Alkett production. The drive sprocket is at the front, where the drive is, and it is the part that suffers most in service: the teeth rub against the track link, the rim is worn smooth, the hub gets greasy. In 1:16 that wear can really be painted — metal rub on the teeth, dust in the recesses of the rim — and a plastic part with a parting line across the teeth manages it only with difficulty, because once the seam is sanded away the sharp edges of the teeth disappear.
Rid the casting of mold release agent by washing it in warm water with detergent. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw at a distance from the part and sand the remainder flat — in 1:16 every inaccuracy is visible and a sprocket glued crooked will throw out the axis of the track as well. Use cyanoacrylate glue, or epoxy where you want time to set things up. Sand wet and with respiratory protection.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
