A resin final drive cover for the StuG III in 1:16 scale — an accessory for the front of the hull of a large-scale model, not a kit of the vehicle.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin casting with which the simplified plastic final drive cover on the front of the hull is replaced. It is not a model of the vehicle and not a whole running gear, but precisely the part that everyone looking at the model from the front sees.
The final drive sits on both sides of the front of the hull and transmits the power to the drive sprocket. Its cover is therefore a massive casting bolted to the side of the hull around its edge by a row of bolts — and it is those bolts that plastic kits manage worst: they tend to be shallow, uneven in height, or they are wiped away by sanding the seam. On the real machine the cover is also worn smooth by mud and by the rub of the track and often has knocked-off edges. In 1:16 each of those small things is two or three millimeters across, so it really is visible and it is worth having right.
Wash the casting in warm water with detergent so that the mold release agent is removed from the surface. Cut the casting block off with a saw and level the mating surface on abrasive paper laid on glass — the cover has to sit against the side of the hull over its whole area, otherwise a gap is created that you will not be able to hide afterwards. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; on a larger area epoxy suits better, because it gives time to set things up. Sand wet and with a respirator.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
