The real subject

The Robonoid is a working robot from the animated series Future Boy Conan, broadcast in Japan at the end of the 1970s. The series is set in a post-apocalyptic world, and the Robonoids serve in it as heavy working machines. Typical of them is a massive, stocky shape without needless decorative features and a simple color scheme, thanks to which the subject reads well as a model too. Aoshima's range of models devoted to this series is among the consistently popular subjects with collectors of Japanese animation classics.

Building and painting tips

With robotic subjects a smooth, even coat looks best: sand the parting lines carefully and apply a primer before painting, which will reveal small flaws. Spray the large surfaces with an airbrush in thin coats. Bring out the panel divisions with a thin wash in the engraved lines, and wear the moving parts and the edges only sparingly, so that the model does not come across as a military vehicle. If the package contains parts in colored plastic, we still recommend at least washes and a matte clear coat, which even the surface out.
