Decals in 1:24 for two Hurricanes of No. 303 Polish Squadron at Northolt in 1940, the machines of squadron commander Witold Urbanowicz and of the airman John Kent.
Responsibility details are not available.
In the fall of 1940 Hurricanes whose crews spoke Polish rose from an airfield on the western edge of London. The unit that took off from there reached a record within a few weeks that had no equal in Fighter Command, and the British command distrusted it at first exactly as much as it admired it later. This set brings the markings of two specific machines from that period.
The first is the aircraft of Witold Urbanowicz, the pilot who commanded the unit in its hardest days and was among the most successful Polish fighter pilots of the whole war. The second machine was flown by John Kent, an officer of Canadian origin who was entrusted with one of the flights; his task was to train the Polish airmen and in the end he admitted that it was rather he who learned from them. Both names belong to a story recalled in aviation history every time the year 1940 comes up.
The sheet is prepared for 1:24 scale, that is for the largest kits of this aircraft available. At large size the typical look of the Hurricane stands out; it was sturdier than the Spitfire and partly fabric covered, a structure of an older school and all the more resistant to hits for it. That is exactly why units with Hurricanes took on attacks against bomber formations while faster machines fought the escort. In terms of color this is the usual British camouflage of the summer and fall of 1940.
Anyone who wants one of the most commemorated units of 1940 on a shelf needs exactly this: the documented codes of two machines that really flew.
