About product

Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 early version (1:24, Trumpeter)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the legendary German fighter Messerschmitt Bf 109 in the early form of the G-6 version (the Gustav) in the striking large scale of 1:24 from the manufacturer Trumpeter. The large scale allows exceptionally rich detail: a well-worked cockpit, the engine section and finely engraved panel lines and riveting. The set as a rule offers a variant with transparent fuselage parts to reveal the internal structure. Check the exact contents of the package and the number of marking options in the manufacturer's instructions.

The real subject

The Bf 109 G-6 was the most numerously built version of the whole Gustav family. It was powered by a Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine and compared with the older versions it was given heavier armament; characteristic were the fairings over the breeches of the fuselage machine guns. The machine served on every front from 1943 as a day as well as a night fighter and it represents one of the best-known fighters of its time. The early version differs from the later ones in a number of details of the airframe and the equipment.

Building and painting tips

In a large scale it pays to paint and highlight the cockpit and the engine before the fuselage is closed up - after assembly they are no longer accessible. Cut the parts from the sprues and glue them with liquid model cement for plastic. Mask the clear glazing before spraying, apply a primer and the paints with an airbrush and bring out the panel lines with a wash. Add the underwing stores and accessories only at the end. On large sets Trumpeter often supplies rubber tires and small photo-etched parts to refine the detail; the tires can be replaced by resin ones for a more accurate shape.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of Luftwaffe equipment and of large scales
  • Modelers who want to display an exposed engine and cockpit
  • More advanced builders interested in the fighters of the Second World War
  • Suitable as a striking centerpiece of a modeling display cabinet in a large scale

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
