The dry version of palm leaves of the second shape type from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene, intended for the large 1:32 and 1:35 scales. These are individual leaves in parched brownish shades, not a finished tree. They are fitted onto a trunk of your own making or used loose as dry tropical vegetation.
Dead palm leaves do not fall at once — they droop along the trunk and form a brown skirt under the living crown. This detail decides whether a model palm reads as credible or as plastic decoration. Dry leaves of type II. therefore show to best effect in combination with the green version of the same type, or mixed with type I., so that a grove does not look like a row of identical trees.
Before gluing, bend the leaves or draw them over an edge — on a dry leaf the droop is more pronounced and more irregular than on a living one, so feel free to deform each leaf differently. Cyanoacrylate holds immediately and lets you hold a leaf in the position you want. A darker wash or a light dusting of pigment supports the impression of a dusty, parched scene. Dry leaves also come into their own lying loose on the ground as fallen leaves, as litter in a palm grove or as improvised camouflage for a vehicle.
This is a scenery material for building dioramas, not a model kit. The trunk, the glue, the paints and the base board are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
