Two A5 sheets with a very fine wood grain for aircraft models in 1:32 and 1:48 scale, one in a warm and one in a light shade. It came about in cooperation with the illustrator Ronny Bar.

The propellers, fuselage coverings and interiors of First World War aircraft are made of plywood and wooden strips. Imitating this surface with a brush means working with glazes, oils and a great deal of patience. A printed film shortens the road: the grain of mature wood is printed industrially, so it has the same density across the whole area and does not bleed.
The package holds two A5 sheets. The first is tuned to a richer, warmer register, the second stays lighter and paler, so that on one model you can set differently stained areas apart or work with two kinds of plywood side by side. In this variant the grain is designated as very fine, which makes it suitable for areas where coarser growth rings would look overdone.
The artwork came about in cooperation with Ronny Bar, the author of the color profiles in the manuals for Wingnut Wings kits. His drawings are among the most cited sources on the color schemes of Great War aircraft, and the shades of the sheets follow from that.
The area is first sprayed with a base color close to the tone of the wood, so that what shows through does not come across as cold. The film is laid onto a gloss surface, worked down with a decal softener and finally fixed with varnish. The surplus is trimmed only once it has dried, so that the grain does not ripple. The A5 format allows larger areas to be covered as well, for instance a whole side of a fuselage in a larger scale.
