This product is not a kit nor a set of parts. It is a sheet of waterslide decals in 1:32 scale that carries the four-color lozenge covering onto the fuselage surfaces of a built Fokker D.VII biplane. The pattern is prepared for machines from the OAW licensed production.
The Fokker D.VII was a German single-seat fighter biplane from the end of the First World War. Besides the parent company it was also built by the Albatros works, among them Ostdeutsche Albatros Werke, abbreviated to OAW. Machines from the different plants differed in the treatment and the division of the covering, which is why decal sets are made separately for the individual manufacturers. Lozenge was an industrially printed covering fabric with a regular diamond pattern, supplied in a four-color as well as a five-color version. It replaced hand-sprayed camouflage and saved weight as well as time in production.
Large-area decals need a perfectly smooth and glossy base. A flat surface under the film creates a silvery veil that can no longer be put right. Soak the sheet briefly, only until the film starts to slide on the backing paper; long soaking washes the adhesive out. Work in smaller pieces, settle the film onto a wet surface and squeeze the excess water out with a soft brush from the center toward the edges. Use decal softener on edges, ribs and transitions, and then do not touch the decal until it has set. Once it is dry, go over it with gloss clear and even the surface out at the end with a flat or satin coat, depending on how the rest of the model looks.
