A photo-etched metal set from Eduard for a model of the Boeing PT-17 Kaydet trainer biplane in 1:32 scale. It replaces the places where a plastic part is inevitably too coarse in scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Boeing PT-17 Kaydet was an American trainer biplane on which thousands of pilots went through basic training before and during the Second World War. The design was deliberately simple and rugged: fixed landing gear, two open cockpits in tandem and a robust structure that would take even a beginner's hard landing. After the war a large proportion of the machines passed into civil hands, where they flew as crop dusters and later as aerobatic aircraft, so they can still be met today.
A photo-etched fret is a thin metal sheet into which the outline and the relief of the individual parts have been etched chemically. The metal holds its shape even at a thickness that cannot be achieved in injection-molded plastic, which is why photo-etched parts replace the places where a plastic part is inevitably too thick. On a biplane with open cockpits in 1:32 scale such details tell especially, because the viewer can see inside. The extent of the fret and the kit the set is cut for are given in the instructions by the manufacturer.
Separate the part with a sharp blade on a hard surface, never by breaking it off with your fingers, or the thin metal will twist and then be hard to straighten. Make the bends over the edge of a bending tool or between two blades, so that the edge is sharp along its whole length. The parts are bonded with cyanoacrylate glue applied with the tip of a toothpick; polystyrene cement will not join metal. Before painting, wash the surface, degrease it and lay down a primer, or the finish will flake off the smooth metal.
A photo-etched set is supplied. The kit, the paints and the glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
