About product

Aviattic 1:32, a four-color lozenge for the tail of the Fokker D.VII (Albatros)

This decal sheet from the British brand Aviattic brings a four-color lozenge camouflage pattern for the tail surfaces of the Fokker D.VII fighter from the licensed production of the Albatros works. According to the name the sheet also holds rib tapes in the same lozenge pattern, so the tail surfaces can be finished in a single style. The pattern is printed on a clear decal backing with the drawing of a fabric texture, and the final tone is tuned with the color laid under the decal.

The real subject

The Fokker D.VII was one of the best fighters of the end of the First World War. It entered service in the spring of 1918 and, besides the parent Fokker factory, it was also built under license by the Albatros and OAW works. Most of the airframe was covered with fabric carrying a printed polygonal lozenge pattern; the four-color version combined subdued shades so that the machine blended with the ground and the sky alike. The seams and the ribs of the covering were overlaid with narrow tapes, and on many machines these were cut straight from lozenge fabric, exactly as this sheet treats them.

Application tips

Spray the base in a uniform light color and bring it to a gloss so that the decal adheres without silvering. Cut the segments with a small overlap, settle them with softener and push the water out from the center to the edges. Apply the rib tapes only once the main areas are perfectly dry, so that they do not shift. At the end, even the whole out with a satin or matte clear coat, which catches the fabric character of the covering.

Who the sheet is for

  • builders of the Fokker D.VII in 1:32 scale
  • modelers of the First World War with an interest in the licensed Albatros machines
  • advanced builders who appreciate the texture of printed fabric and tuning the tone with the base

This is a decal accessory, not a kit: the model, the paints and the glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

A polygonal camouflage pattern printed directly onto the covering fabric of German aircraft of the First World War. The four-color version combines four subdued shades.

Yes, according to the name the sheet also holds rib tapes cut from the lozenge pattern, with which you overlay the ribs and the seams of the covering.

The final shade is created partly by the color sprayed under the decal: a light base brightens the pattern, a darker one subdues it. So lay the base on uniformly and to a gloss.

No, the sheet is intended for the tail surfaces. The rest of the airframe is dealt with by separate sheets of the same range.
