Aviattic 1:32 Fokker D.VII (OAW): a four-color lozenge for the tail surfaces with blue rib tapes. A decal sheet on a clear backing; being smaller areas, the tail surfaces are an ideal first project with texture decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
This Aviattic decal sheet carries a four-color lozenge pattern for the tail surfaces of the Fokker D.VII of licensed OAW production, filled out with blue rib tapes of dyed fabric. The pattern is printed on a clear backing with a fine drawing of the cloth, so a uniform light color has to lie under the decal, and with it you also tune the final intensity. The tail surfaces are smaller and easy to read, so the sheet also serves well as a first acquaintance with the technique of printed coverings.
The Fokker D.VII was the most feared German fighter of the end of the First World War and, because of demand, it was built by the Albatros and OAW works alongside the parent factory. The fabric of the airframe carried a printed polygonal lozenge pattern, and narrow tapes overlaid the ribs and the seams, on some machines in dyed fabric, often blue. The combination of a subdued four-color pattern with blue tapes is well documented for machines of the period.
Start with the horizontal tail: a flat, easily reached area will put the technique in your hands. Lay the decal onto a glossy base, settle it with softener and push the water out with a soft brush from the center. Align the blue tapes to the position of the ribs, marking it out lightly in advance. Once it has dried, lock the whole down with a satin or matte clear coat, so that the surface reads as one continuous fabric covering.
This is a decal accessory, not a kit: the model, the paints and the glue are not included in the package.
