This Aviattic decal sheet in 1:32 scale reproduces the pale blue doped linen carried on the lower and side surfaces of a number of German Fokker aircraft of the First World War. The printing captures not only the shade but also the fine texture of the fabric — a detail that sprayed paint can never offer.
The sheet is printed on a clear decal base: the color of the base coat on the model shows through and takes part in the resulting tone. Spray a light, ideally white or very light gray gloss base under the decal, therefore — you will get a clean, fresh shade. A darker base will deliberately mute the tone, which can be used for a more worn look. Experienced modelers tune the shade of individual airframe panels this way and achieve a lively, non-uniform surface. The sister version on a white opaque base, by contrast, always renders the shade the same, without the influence of the base.
Cover large areas panel by panel according to the layout of the airframe, with plenty of water and a softener. The texture of the fabric comes out well under a satin varnish; around the exhausts and the walkways discreet weathering is then enough.
