A 1:32 decal sheet for the four engine Consolidated B-24D bomber. It works up two versions of the markings of the machine nicknamed Dopey, one of which carries a second name, Arkansas Traveler.
Responsibility details are not available.
The crews of the 343rd Bombardment Squadron of the 98th Bombardment Group named part of their machines after characters from the animated film about Snow White. That produced a set of aircraft with names such as Dopey, Sneezy or Grumpy, which is among the best documented collections of nose art of the whole American bomber campaign. This sheet is devoted to the first of them and offers it in two forms, because the markings of the machine changed over time.
For this type Consolidated designed a slender wing with a high ratio of span to chord, which gave better range and a higher cruising speed than contemporary rivals. That was paid for with poorer tolerance of combat damage and more demanding handling in a tight formation. The bomb bay closed with roller doors that retracted along the sides of the fuselage, so that when open they did not increase drag.
These are waterslide decals in a large scale, where the nose art is big enough to carry legible drawing on a model. The base has to be glossy and dry; after application a decal softener and a sealing coat of varnish are recommended.
