This item is a set of photo-etched metal parts by the Czech manufacturer Eduard for the 1:32 Douglas A-26B Invader model. It is important not to confuse it: a self-adhesive masking set comes out under the same name, and that one only serves for painting the glazing and is thrown away after use. Here we have an etch — the parts are cut from the fret, folded and glued permanently onto the model. Nor is the set an airplane kit; it is an accessory to a model you already own. Which areas of the model the set covers is stated on the box.
The Douglas A-26 Invader was a twin-engine all-metal attack aircraft with retractable tricycle landing gear. The A-26B version had a solid nose with fixed gun armament, unlike the variant with a glazed nose for level bombing. The type stayed in service long after the Second World War and exists in many equipment states, which makes detailing both interesting and demanding.
Working with photo-etched parts has its own rules. Leave the fret intact until you really need a part — small pieces are easily lost. Cut them off with a scalpel on a hard surface and sand the tabs down. Degrease the metal with alcohol and do not touch it with your fingers afterwards. Make sharp folds in a bending tool and shape curves over a round rod or a drill bit; stiff parts can be briefly annealed over a flame so that they soften. Choose the glue according to the area: thin super glue drop by drop with a pin on small parts, gel or epoxy on large areas where you need time to position them. Always a primer on metal, and only then the paint. Etched edges hold a dark wash beautifully, so it pays to weather only after the finish is done.
