The kit in the large 1:32 scale captures the C version of the North American F-100 Super Sabre. It is an injection-molded plastic kit supplied unassembled and unpainted. The large scale gives room for detail in the engine section, the undercarriage bays and the cockpit, and the finished model has respectable dimensions, which is worth bearing in mind when planning a display case.
The F-100 Super Sabre was the first production fighter of the US Air Force able to reach supersonic speed in level flight. It was powered by a Pratt & Whitney J57 jet engine with an afterburner, and the wing had a pronounced sweep and a thin section. The C version moved the machine into the fighter-bomber role: it was given a wing adapted to carry fuel, more pylons for stores and equipment for refueling in flight, which markedly widened its range. The Super Sabre served for many years with combat and training units and became one of the typical aircraft of the so-called Century series.
In a large scale it pays to work in sections: first the cockpit interior and the undercarriage bays, and only then close the fuselage. Glue the parts with thin cement for plastic, which wicks into the joint, sand the joints and re-scribe the engraving. Apply a filler primer before painting, so that any flaws show up. A natural metal finish is best done with a lacquer on a smooth, perfectly polished base, and the shades of the panels are set apart with gentle toning. Use gloss varnish under the decals and, once they have dried, even the surface out to the sheen you want.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
