A decal sheet with markings for a model of the F/A-18C Hornet carrier aircraft in the finish of unit VFA-82.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F/A-18C Hornet is a single-seat carrier aircraft that filled both the fighter and the attack role in the US Navy. It is built for operation from an aircraft carrier, and it shows: sturdy landing gear, an arrestor hook and folding wings. For a modeler it is rewarding precisely because of the prominent markings by which the individual machines were set apart.
This is a set of markings for a Hornet carrying the designation of unit VFA-82. How many variants the sheet holds and where exactly the individual elements belong is shown in the manufacturer's instructions supplied with the set. The size of the sheet is not stated here consistently; which model the sheet is intended for is given on the packaging and in the manufacturer's instructions. From the markings themselves it cannot be told.
With sheets of this kind the procedure tends to be the wet one. First level the area under the decal with gloss clear, cut the individual elements out together with their backing, immerse them for a few seconds in lukewarm water and then let them slide off the paper onto the model. Push the remaining water out with a soft cloth and let the element dry. Before you soak the sheet, however, check in the instructions whether it is not a self-adhesive version: a soaked self-adhesive film is ruined, whereas a wet decal can be soaked even later. Once it has dried, clear is applied over the decals, which evens out the sheen and hides their edges.
The sheet will be appreciated by a modeler who wants a Hornet in a particular finish and is not satisfied with the markings from the box. The aircraft model, paints, clear coat and decal softener are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
