A set of 3D-printed and pre-painted interior elements on decal paper for a model of the F/A-18E aircraft in 1:32 scale from Quinta Studio. It is not a kit of an aircraft or a set of parts to be glued but an accessory transferred by the wet method like a decal. On a modern cockpit this way of doing it is especially effective: relief color printing can manage the labels of the controls and the division of the panels at a fineness practically unattainable with a brush.
The F/A-18E is the single-seat variant of the American carrier-based multirole aircraft known as the Super Hornet. Compared with the older Hornet it has a larger airframe and modified air intakes. The pilot's area belongs to the modern generation, that is with large-area displays instead of a classic cluster of round instruments and with the controls concentrated on the stick and the throttle section.
The panels in a modern cockpit are mostly flat surfaces, which makes the application easier. The surface is leveled with fine abrasive paper, sprayed with a base color and coated with a gloss varnish. The element is cut off the sheet, briefly immersed in lukewarm water and slid into place once the carrier film has released. A soft brush or a cotton bud presses the water out from beneath it, always drawing from the center to the edges and without pressure on the relief. A decal softener and a setting solution do not belong on these elements, as their chemistry attacks the printed resin. With the displays it pays to leave them matte and instead to polish only the glass finely, so that they look like an active surface. Everything is finished before the cockpit is closed up and the canopy fitted.
This is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model of the aircraft. Check the match with your kit before buying. Paints and glue are not included in the package.
