This set from the Japanese manufacturer Aoshima holds two plastic kits of flying machines: the larger Flying Machine I in 1:32 scale and the smaller Flying Machine II in 1:144 scale. It is a genre science fiction subject, a pair of futuristic flying contraptions that you build and paint according to the scheme on the box, or just as happily in a form of your own imagining.
Flying machines are among the favorite subjects of Japanese science fiction work, and Aoshima has long years of experience with genre kits. Retro-futuristic contraptions combine elements of real aviation equipment with imaginary design, so they offer great freedom in painting and in presentation, from a clean factory-fresh look to a heavily worn machine from a harsh science fiction world.
The build goes in the classic way: separate the parts with a sharp knife or nippers and glue the joints with thin cement for polystyrene. On the smaller model in 1:144 scale work with tweezers and paint the small parts while they are still on the sprue. With a science fiction subject you do not have to keep to prescribed shades, because metallic tones, a dark wash into the seams and light rubbing of the edges that gives a machine a used look all work well. A pair of models in different scales is moreover an invitation to display them side by side or to make a small scene.
The models are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
