The A-8 series was the most numerous form of the machine that Luftwaffe pilots nicknamed the Würger. It went into production late in 1943 and brought heavier on-board armament, room for an extra fuel tank behind the seat and a revised instrument panel. Alongside it the lightened Erla canopy with fewer frames came into use, so one and the same type was built with two distinctly different glazing shapes.
The delivery carries two masks for the canopy, cut separately for the view from outside and for the inner face of the clear part, plus two stencils for the national insignia. Masking the inside makes practical sense in a large scale: the framing shows through the canopy from both sides, and a part painted only on the surface reveals that the shade did not carry through to the inside.
The film with its low-tack adhesive settles even on gently curved surfaces and comes away without residue once the paint has dried. Before it goes on, it pays to degrease the clear part and to spray in thin coats so that the paint does not creep under the edge of the stencil. Offcuts from the sheet serve as masking for tires or for the troughs around the exhausts.
The BMW 801 radial engine on this type was wrapped in a tight cowling with an annular oil cooler immediately behind the propeller spinner. Modelers usually paint it differently from the rest of the fuselage, and since it sits right in front of the windscreen, the leftover film from the sheet comes in handy for masking its edge too. The width of the offcuts around the cutouts is sufficient for the purpose and the material can be cut with ordinary paper scissors.
The item belongs among masking aids for large-scale aircraft models. Plastic parts, paints and decals are not part of the delivery.
