A set of die-cut masks for the canopy and insignia of the ground-attack Fw 190F-8, 1:32 scale. According to the manufacturer it masks the glazing outside and inside and adds two insignia masks.
Responsibility details are not available.
The ground-attack -8s did not fly only by day. Night harassment groups used them for attacks on columns and rear-area targets, so the aircraft appeared with undersides oversprayed in black and in improvised winter finishes. Tube-launched rockets and bomb containers were hung under the wings, the fit changed almost week by week and individual examples differed from one another more than in any high-altitude fighter of this family.
Masking the glazing cannot be improvised halfway through painting. The inner part is laid on the loose molding before it is glued into the fuselage, because afterwards you can no longer reach it. The outer part goes on only once the interior has dried, otherwise the cockpit shade gets underneath it. Anyone who reverses this order usually ends up unsticking the molding and cleaning it with alcohol.
Besides tweezers, a blunt toothpick point for pressing the corners down and a soft brush for sweeping off dust both prove their worth. Mask the remaining areas with ordinary paper tape or masking fluid; the set deals only with the frames and the insignia.
Pull the paper away at an angle and slowly, not straight upwards. A perpendicular pull takes a thin layer of paint off the edge of the frame along with the mask.
The adhesive is weak and leaves no trace at room temperature. Trouble starts when the model dries by a radiator or on a windowsill: heat softens it, it soaks into the pores and after removal a matte outline is left that can only be taken out by polishing. Let the model dry in the shade, then, and remove the mask before you carry it to the display case. If the outline does appear, a cotton swab moistened with soapy water helps.
