Self-adhesive cut masks from New Ware for a model of the Heinkel He 219 twin-engine night fighter in the early A-0 and A-2 versions, 1:32 scale. The BASIC level is the entry grade of the line: it covers the glazing frames and the wheels, that is the parts that are masked on every build whatever color scheme is chosen. The masks are precisely cut from thin masking tape and are applied straight onto the part.
The cockpit of the He 219 is divided into many small panels and the forward part of the fuselage is glazed more than is usual on a twin-engine aircraft. Cutting dozens of frames from tape by hand is a whole evening's work, and a single slipped cut is enough to make a frame uneven in width. A pre-cut mask reduces this part of the build to a few minutes and, above all, guarantees that the left and right sides of the cockpit look the same.
The He 219 Uhu was a twin-engine night fighter of the end of the Second World War with nosewheel landing gear and a crew of two. The A-0 and A-2 versions are among the early variants, differing from the later ones in details of armament and equipment. Because of the short production run it is a type that is built in modeling above all for its unusual shape and extensive glazing.
For modelers who are taking on a large model with extensive glazing and do not want to spend the most time on the least interesting part of the build. It will also be appreciated by anyone whose hand-taping has repeatedly failed to come out symmetrical on both sides of the cockpit.
