A wheel masking set 1:32 Saab J 29F/B Tunnan (Artillery models)

A set of masks intended for the landing gear wheels of a plastic model of the Swedish Saab J 29 Tunnan jet aircraft in 1:32 scale. It is neither a kit nor replacement parts: what you get are masking elements that make it possible to separate the color of the tire from the color of the wheel rim without laborious outlining with a brush. It is precisely the transition between the rim and the tire that is one of the details clearly visible in 1:32 scale and decisive for the final impression.

The real subject

The Saab J 29 Tunnan was a Swedish single-seat jet fighter aircraft with a characteristic barrel-shaped fuselage and a swept wing. The J 29B version served as a fighter and fighter-bomber variant, while the later J 29F was given a more powerful engine with an afterburner and a modified wing. The landing gear with a nose wheel has clearly visible wheel rims on models of this type, and they are commonly painted differently from the tires.

Use

• Paint the wheels in the dark shade of the tire first and let them dry thoroughly.
• Stick the mask centrally onto the rim and press the edge down so that paint does not creep under it.
• Spray the color of the rim in thin coats perpendicular to the surface, not at an angle under the edge of the mask.
• Take the mask off shortly after the paint has set; any small imperfections can then be evened out with a fine brush.
