This set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard holds parts in etched metal sheet intended for working up the external sections of a model of the North American P-51D-15 Mustang fighter in 1:32 scale. The focus on the exterior is given in the name of the set itself — it therefore works with what is visible on the model from outside, as against the interior sets of the same range. It is not a kit; the set serves to improve a model you already have and assumes work with thin metal.
The P-51D is the most widespread version of the Mustang: a teardrop canopy, a cut-down rear fuselage decking and a supercharged V12 engine, thanks to which the aircraft held its performance even at high altitude. The D-15 designation refers to one of the production blocks of this version. In the large 1:32 scale the fine sheet metal elements that cannot be produced at a realistic thickness by injection molding stand out on a model — and that is exactly the domain of photo-etched parts.
Cut the parts off the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, not with cutters — the metal would ripple. Make the folds on a photo-etch bender or at least between two razor blades, so that the edge is crisp. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin, not straight from the tube. Degrease the metal parts before painting and always use a primer, as otherwise paint will not hold on smooth metal. On external parts, take care that a photo-etched piece follows on from the shape of the plastic — sand the seating area down, so that the part does not stand above the surrounding panel.
The set is an accessory to a kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before you buy, check the match with the model you are building.
