This masking set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard is intended for a model of the North American P-51D Mustang fighter in 1:32 scale. The TFace designation means that in the package you will find masks for the outer and the inner side of the glazing, so the framing of the canopy and the windshield looks believable from both sides. In the large 1:32 scale that difference is especially noticeable, because the cockpit is large and an open canopy tends to be the standard way of displaying a model. It is neither a kit nor parts of the aircraft, but an accessory to a model you already have.
The P-51D is the most widespread version of the Mustang — it has a teardrop canopy with a view in every direction, a cut-down rear fuselage decking and a supercharged V12 engine, which gave the machine its performance at high altitude. It was precisely the combination of range and performance that made it the typical escort fighter of the closing stage of the Second World War. From a modeling point of view the teardrop canopy is the key detail: the frame is narrow and rounded, and masking it by hand is difficult.
Degrease the glass before applying them and lay the masks down with tweezers, pressing the edges home with a wooden stick. Spray thin coats — give the first pass in the color of the cockpit interior, so that the frame looks right from inside, and only then the external shade. Take the mask off shortly after it has dried and wipe any remains of adhesive away with spirit on a cotton swab. At a large scale it pays to go over the edge of the frame with a fine brush after unmasking and touch up any small seepage.
