A photo-etched detail set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for models of the P-40F fighter aircraft in 1:32 scale. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory intended for those who want to build the model with the gun bays in the wing open. The fret of thin stainless sheet contains parts for the internal fittings of the space: stiffeners, bulkheads, brackets, mountings for the ammunition belts and small internal details that cannot be molded in plastic. Open bays belong among the striking ways to bring a model to life, because they show the internal structure of the wing.
The work starts with the plastic: the covers of the bays have to be cut out, the internal space cleaned up and completed with structure according to the instructions. Separate the etched parts with a scalpel on a hard surface and bend them in an etching bender; bend the more complicated parts in steps and try the seating dry. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and thin joints will also take soldering. Paint the space of the bay before you close it up with structure: a primer for metal, the base shade of the interior, a dark wash into the recesses and a fine dry brush. Real bays are dirty from lubricant and exhaust gases in service, so restrained weathering will take the result further.
The set contains only photo-etched parts. The aircraft model, paints and glue are not included in the package. Installation calls for an intervention into the plastic parts of the model.
