DK Decals 1:32 P-40F Warhawk and Kittyhawk Mk.IIA is a decal set for large models of the V12-engined P-40 version. The package contains decals and instructions only, not a kit.

A decal sheet in the large 1:32 scale intended for models of the Curtiss P-40F fighter, which in British service carried the designation Kittyhawk Mk.IIA. In the larger scale the fine points of the printing show up where a small scale would lose them, so the sheet makes it possible to build a machine in a finish the base kit mostly does not offer. The package contains the decal sheet and instructions for the individual schemes; the plastic model, paints and glue are not included.
The P-40F differs from the more familiar P-40 versions in its powerplant. Instead of the Allison it was given a V12 Packard, that is a license-built Rolls-Royce Merlin, which showed on the outside above all in the absence of the carburetor intake on top of the nose. That detail is the key to recognizing the version and is worth watching on a model. Machines of this version flew above all in the Mediterranean and over North Africa, where they appeared with Allied users alongside the American units; the British designation was Kittyhawk Mk.IIA. The type was robust, stood up well to operating from field strips and suited work at low and medium altitude.
In a large scale the decals are large and break more easily, so work on a clean surface and with plenty of lukewarm water. Before applying them, spray a gloss coat compatible with the paint you have used. Move the large national markings onto the model after drawing the water off with a soft brush and smooth them from the center outwards, so that no air is left underneath. Over engraving and rivet lines use a stronger decal softener and let it work undisturbed. Desert schemes were usually heavily faded: it pays to suggest the different shade of the individual panels beforehand with a lighter coat and then to age the decals with a very fine thinned varnish, so that they do not look like a new sticker on old paint.
