A set of adhesive stencils for the export version of the Warhawk. It masks the cockpit from both faces, contains a pair of pieces for the national insignia and a sheet of supplementary decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
The P-40M version was built mainly for deliveries to the Allies and is recognized by two elongated grilles on the left side of the nose, immediately behind the row of exhausts. Under the cowling worked an Allison V-1710-81 engine without a second supercharger stage, so the aircraft excelled low down and fell away at altitude. The British listed it as the Kittyhawk III and the machines served over Burma, in North Africa and on the Eastern Front.
The cockpit of the Warhawk is small and has little framing, so the saving of time against tape comes out modest. The set proves its worth elsewhere: adhesive film comes away cleanly and leaves no milky bloom on the clear part, whereas adhesive residue from tape is very hard to remove from the fine grooves of the frame. On a part that cannot be polished without losing its shape, that is precisely the main argument.
Fit the inner part before you join the glazing to the fuselage and spray the frame on that side in the cockpit shade. The outside comes along with the camouflage. The sliding center section can be masked separately if you want to slide it back on the finished model.
Two pieces cover the national insignia; the other markings are carried by the decal sheet enclosed. A sprayed insignia stays level with the surrounding finish, so no glossy rectangle of carrier film will show through on matte camouflage. Apply the paint in several light passes and lift the stencil while the finish is still flexible.
