A masking sheet intended for a model of the P-40N fighter in 1:32 scale. In the package you will find no plastic parts and no paints – it is purely an accessory that replaces decals with sprayed markings. The set is tied to one named machine, so the result is a particular historic aircraft, not a universal scheme.
The P-40N-1 was the first and most heavily lightened sub-version of the last large production batch of the P-40 family. The effort to improve the rate of climb and the speed led to the use of lighter materials in the structure, to a reduction of fuel capacity and to a cut in the number of machine guns in the wings. A characteristic recognition feature of the N version is the newly shaped rear part of the cockpit with a markedly better view to the rear. The aircraft served above all in the Pacific and Asian theaters, where they proved themselves at low and medium altitudes. Personal names on the nose, such as Ruth A, were common practice in American units and are today the main reason why one and the same type can be built in dozens of mutually different forms.
The key to a sharp edge is the pressure and the consistency of the paint. Thin it more than you are used to for an ordinary spray, lower the pressure and spray square to the mask – an angled spray drives the paint under the edge. Before you start, run a nail or a toothpick over the edges of the mask so that they bed down everywhere, and cover the rest of the model, because overspray in a large scale carries further than you expect. Always let the paint air off for a while between coats; a wet coat under a mask tends to tear away with its surroundings while it is being lifted.
