This injection-molded plastic kit from Trumpeter captures the Chinese two-seat JJ-5 jet trainer (known for export as the FT-5) in the large 1:32 scale. The model consists of parts in gray and clear plastic and is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the package holds decal sheets for finishing a machine of the People's Liberation Army Air Force.
The JJ-5 was a purely Chinese training machine that combined the airframe of the license-built MiG-17 fighter (the J-5 in Chinese service) with a two-seat cockpit derived from the MiG-15UTI trainer. It served for decades as the basic advanced trainer for the pilots of the People's Liberation Army Air Force and naval air arm and became one of the most widespread jet trainers of its era.
Glue the parts with a thin plastic cement, sand the joints and lay down a base coat (primer) before painting. On the large area of the airframe the best results come from an airbrush. The glazed two-seat cockpit deserves careful masking and details picked out with a dry brush.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
