The rudder, elevators and ailerons in a kit tend to be made as one piece with the tail surfaces and with the wing, so they stay in the neutral position and the model looks stiff. A parked aircraft, however, tends to have its surfaces deflected by their own weight, and the position of the controls in the cockpit matches that. Replacement parts therefore handle the surfaces separately: they can be fitted deflected and the model comes to life at once, because the eye of a viewer notices such a small thing immediately.
A separately made surface tends to be thinner at the trailing edge and has the ribbing of the covering rendered more finely, that is, two features that anyone notices on a model in a large scale. The 1:32 scale is also large enough for even a small unevenness to show on it, so work on the surfaces pays off. The extent of the parts and the kit they are cut for are given in the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer.
Try the parts dry first and only then glue them; whether the existing surfaces are cut off or the replacement parts are inserted into a prepared cutout is given in the instructions from the manufacturer. Choose the angles of deflection with thought and keep them consistent across the whole model, so that the result looks convincing. Cut off the excess material and the traces of manufacture with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest away. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. The suitable glue follows from the material of the parts and is given in the instructions from the manufacturer.
