The SE.5a was a British single-seat fighter of the close of the First World War. It did not stand out for agility as the light biplanes of its day did, but it was fast, strong and steady in flight, which made it an excellent gun platform. It was powered by a V8 engine, and the armament was a synchronized machine gun on the fuselage rounded out by a machine gun on the upper wing. It was among the most successful British fighters of the close of the war.
The set comes from the Basic Line range of the manufacturer HGW and is intended for a model of the SE.5a in 1:32 scale. A large scale is rewarding for biplanes: the rigging, the fittings and the work in the cockpit are all visible on the model, so accessory sets pay off more than they do in small scales. The exact make-up of the set and the procedure for fitting it are stated by the manufacturer in the instructions enclosed.
Have tweezers with fine points, a sharp blade and a light-colored surface ready, on which you will not lose a small part. Try the parts dry in the place where they go before you reach for the glue, and in the cockpit fit them in order from the most deeply set parts outwards - once the seat or the instrument panel is inside, you will no longer reach the rear wall. Apply the glue in tiny drops on the tip of a toothpick; you will find the type of glue recommended for the particular parts in the manufacturer's instructions. Degrease the surfaces before painting and let them dry.
The set is for modelers who are building the SE.5a in 1:32 scale and want to take the model further than the base kit reaches. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
