An Aber 1:32 set of two barrels for the German 7.92 mm MG 17 aircraft machine guns are turned metal parts replacing the plastic barrels. A detail accessory, not a kit of an airplane.
Responsibility details are not available.
A pair of turned metal barrels in 1:32 scale from the Polish brand Aber. The set is a detail accessory to models of German Second World War aircraft, not a kit of an airplane. Unlike a plastic part, a metal barrel has a genuinely drilled muzzle, an exactly circular cross section and it does not warp. In 1:32 scale this is a detail that shows at once on a finished model, because the muzzles of the barrels project from the engine cowling.
The MG 17 was a German 7.92 mm aircraft machine gun in a fixed installation, fired by the pilot and synchronized with the propeller. It made up the backbone of the armament of German fighters and combat aircraft in the second half of the 1930s and at the start of the war, where it was built into the cowling above the engine or into the wing. As enemy aircraft grew tougher it was gradually replaced by weapons of larger calibers.
Cut off the plastic end of the barrel and open the hole in the cowling out with a hand drill to the diameter of the metal part. Degrease the barrel with alcohol and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue, watching that both weapons project the same distance and are parallel. Give the metal a base coat before painting. For the final look a dark gunmetal shade and a very discreet darkening around the muzzle work well; overdone traces of fumes look unconvincing.
The set is an accessory to a kit; the model of the airplane itself is not included in the package. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
