About product

Decals 1:32 - Spitfire Mk.VB, No. 313 (Czechoslovak) Squadron RAF, Operation Starkey

A decal set in 1:32 from the Czech decal brand DK Decals. It is not a kit: the package holds a decal sheet with which you finish an already built and painted model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.VB. The theme of the sheet is the markings of the machines of No. 313 (Czechoslovak) Squadron RAF from the period of Operation Starkey. If you are building a particular machine, check the contents of the sheet in advance against the illustration on the packaging.

The real subject

Operation Starkey was an Allied deception operation carried out at the end of the summer of 1943 in the area of the English Channel and the Pas-de-Calais. Its aim was to suggest preparations for a landing, provoke a reaction from the enemy and tie down his forces in Western Europe. Fighter squadrons flew escort and sweep missions over northern France during it. No. 313 Squadron RAF was one of the Czechoslovak fighter units in Great Britain and at that time it was equipped with Spitfire Mk.VBs. The Mk.VB was the most widespread variant of the mid-war Spitfire, recognizable among other things by the B type wing with two cannons and four machine guns.

How to use the decals

Decals settle best onto gloss varnish; varnish the model with clear gloss before applying them, otherwise the edges may turn matte, an effect known as silvering. Separate the individual decal, soak it in lukewarm water and slide it into place, blot the surplus water away and use a decal softener so that the material conforms to the engraved lines and the rivets. Once it has dried completely, wipe the remains of the adhesive off with a damp cloth and seal the whole model with a matte or semi-matte varnish according to the finish you want. In 1:32 the decals are large and a mistake in position shows a great deal, so measure the position in advance against documentation.

Who the decals are for

  • for modelers building Spitfires in the large 1:32 scale
  • for anyone interested in the service of Czechoslovak airmen in the RAF
  • for builders who want to give a model markings other than those from the box
  • for collectors of decal sheets for themed lines

Decals are not a kit. The model, paints, varnish and softener are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is not. This is a decal sheet and nothing else. The base kit of the Spitfire Mk.VB in 1:32, the paints and the varnish have to be bought separately.

The number of schemes and the extent of the technical stencils are given on the packaging. If you are building a particular machine, we recommend checking the contents of the sheet before buying.

An Allied deception operation from the end of the summer of 1943 in the area of the English Channel and the Pas-de-Calais, intended to suggest preparations for a landing and provoke a reaction from the enemy.

It is not compulsory, but we recommend it. It helps the decal settle into the engraved lines and the rivets and reduces the risk of the edges turning matte.
