The North American T-6 Texan is an American single-engined trainer aircraft with a piston engine and a retractable undercarriage, on which whole generations of pilots learned. The T-6G version represents the post-war modernization with a revised cockpit, equipment and fuel system. Trainer machines of the US Air Force in this period often appeared in a striking coloring with large lettering and signal areas, which were to improve the visibility of the aircraft in the air as well as at the airfield.
A saturated base is the rule with this type, and it is exactly on it that the covering ability of decals is recognized. Light lettering on an intensely colored area may show through once it has dried: if you are not sure, try one piece of lettering from the edge of the sheet on a scrap piece sprayed with the same paint. Do not overdo the soaking: it is enough for the film to begin moving freely on the paper, as a longer bath washes the adhesive away and the decal then does not hold. Carry large lettering to the model together with the backing paper and draw it off only on the spot. Press the water out from under the film with a flat soft brush in an outward direction, so that no bubble is left under it. On wings with pronounced panel lines a medium strength of softener laid on in two thin coats helps. Once the decals have dried, seal them with varnish: only then is the patina done.
