Seat belts for the Fokker DR.I in 1:32 scale

A sheet with full-color printed three-dimensional seat belts for the Fokker DR.I triplane in 1:32 scale from the manufacturer Kits-World. This is neither a model nor a kit, but an accessory that is glued into a finished cockpit. The manufacturer lists several versions for this type, so before buying we recommend comparing the contents with what the model you have under way needs.

A finished print instead of photo-etched parts

Seat belts can be dealt with in three ways: leaving them cast on the seat, folding them from photo-etched sheet and painting them, or using a three-dimensional color print. The last route is the quickest and looks very good in the open cockpits of First World War aircraft, because the print has a thickness of its own and a fabric look and calls for no painting. The time saved can then be given to what is more laborious on a triplane, that is the struts and the rigging wires.

Recommended procedure

• Paint and weather the cockpit, and only then reach for the belts.
• Cut them out with a sharp knife close to the print, best of all on glass or a cutting mat.
• Follow the instructions enclosed in the package; the application differs from ordinary decals with this type of accessory.
• Seat the belt so that it follows the cushion and falls over the edge of the seat.
• Finally unify the seat and the belts with a matte clear coat so that the surface does not shine differently anywhere.
