About product

Armament for the British Vickers Medium Mk I medium tank in 1:35 scale (Aber)

A metal detail set, not a tank kit. The box holds one turned barrel for the 47 mm 3-pounder gun and two barrels for the water-cooled 7.7 mm Vickers machine gun. The parts replace the plastic armament on a 1:35 Vickers Medium Mk I model and bring a more accurate shape of the cooling jacket and a drilled gun muzzle. They are made by the Polish company Aber, one of the well-known suppliers of turned metal barrels.

The real subject

The Vickers Medium Mk I was a British medium tank of the 1920s and in many ways it foreshadowed the shape of modern tanks. As one of the first production vehicles it had a fully rotating turret with a gun and suspension that let it move far faster than the ponderous rhomboid machines of the First World War. Its main armament was a 47 mm gun, backed by several machine guns. The vehicle served mainly as a training and experimental platform for the British army between the wars and stood at the beginning of the thinking of the day about mobile armored warfare.

Fitting and painting tips

Degrease the barrels with alcohol before gluing and fix the gun barrel with cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy. The machine gun barrels are small, so glue them on only after the turret and the hull have been painted. Apply a primer for metal surfaces to the metal. Interwar British vehicles usually carried a single green or brownish coat with little weathering – so keep the wear restrained and concentrate instead on picking out edges and rivets.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of interwar British vehicles in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers of early tanks with a rotating turret
  • Anyone who wants a metal barrel instead of a plastic one with a mold seam
  • Competition and display builds

This is not a model kit but a detail accessory. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
